Is there any way to ensure the safety of charging stations for new energy vehicles?

New energy vehicles with the rapid development of charging infrastructure is also rapidly building and upgrading. How to ensure the safe operation of charging stations for new energy vehicles has become the focus of attention in the industry.


What are the safety hazards of new energy charging stations?


New energy car charging stations have some safety risks. Fast charging lithium battery packs can cause fire risk. Fast charging makes lots of heat in battery packs. If heat does not spread out fast, battery inside temp rises quick. When battery temp passes safe limit, thermal runaway happens. This causes fire and explosion. Also, charging equipment and lines get hot from long high load use. Poor power socket contact can cause arcing and fire. So controlling temp rise and heat during charging is very important.

Temperature sensors play an important role in the safe operation of charging stations. 



How can temperature sensors play a role in keeping charging stations safe?


First, temp sensors can monitor battery pack temp change in real time. Many probe points collect data from each cell in the pack. The data is analyzed to see whole pack thermal condition. If any cell temp passes safe limit, the temp control system triggers charge interrupting. It cuts power to let battery cool down. This prevents battery overheat damage or fire.


Second, temp sensors also monitor work temps of all charging equipment. Like charging piles, transformers, distribution boxes, etc. The system keeps checking equipment temp data. If abnormal high temps show, it means overheating. The temp control can start fans to force cool down. Or lower charge power to reduce heat load. It can also alarm for maintenance check. This fixes faults fast to ensure normal equipment operation.


Finally, temp sensors must check charging room or station area ambient temps. This avoids too much heat buildup during long charge times. If ambient temps are too high, battery ideal charge temp range decreases. This is bad for battery charging and heat dissipation. Then the temp control system starts the air conditioner to lower temps. It keeps charging room temps in a suitable range. This prevents charging accidents from high temp environments.



In order to protect the safety of new energy vehicle owners, the following points should be noted when charging at charging stations:


1、Choose regular charging stations instead of small temporary ones.

2、Go to large charging stations operated by well-known companies.

3、Read and follow the charging instructions.

4、Do not leave items charging unattended.

5、Don't stay in the car for long periods of time while charging, walk around or wait in rest areas.
